This homeowner called on Revelation AV + Automation to transform their backyard into a stunning space for day and night enjoyment. Their desire was to highlight the beauty of their pool, pavilion, and landscaping in a functional way while keeping a warm, inviting vibe. They didn’t want outdoor lighting that was harsh or overpowering but rather indirect outdoor lighting that brought out the details, like the stonework and trees, and gave their outdoor space a real wow factor.
The project tackled challenges like working around tight spaces and existing structures. We had to create a thoughtful design for outside lighting that felt natural while still being practical. We brought outdoor patio lighting ideas into a thoughtful design to create a backyard oasis that feels magical at night. Now, their space is perfect for relaxing, entertaining, and showing off their amazing outdoor investment.
Before
This single-family home north of Baltimore (near Sparks, Glencoe, and Hunt Valley, MD) was beautiful during the day, but dark and unremarkable at night. We created an outdoor lighting plan to highlight the home’s unique features, making it a warm, inviting, stand-out after dark.
The goal for the outdoor pavilion was to highlight the stone architecture, plants, and paths to create a bright, safe, and inviting space at night. We created outdoor patio lighting ideas to accent key features and manicured landscaping without overwhelming the natural beauty.
In the pool area, we designed a warm, inviting space by accenting the stone wall, patio, trees, and seating areas with indirect lighting. Undercap wall lighting, custom landscape lighting, and uplighting the columns will enhance the layered beauty without overpowering it or causing harsh reflections on the water.

We used the broad light spread of Eagle Eye Fixtures to create a well-lit path from the garage to the front deck with fewer fixtures. These lights were core drilled into the brick walkway for a clean, seamless look. We added uplighting on the windows to highlight the architecture with soft shadowing and depth, using wall washers to accent the stone and create a warm, inviting feel. On the second story, S1 halo fixtures on gimbals were placed to frame the windows and enhance the home’s full height (without over-lighting or causing glare inside).
To improve the dark and uninviting driveway, we placed Micro Series Owl fixtures above the garage doors to provide even, warm lighting on the driveway and brick car park. Along the ground, we added uplighting near the garage and stone columns. To create depth and highlight architectural elements, we used 1.2-inch stainless aluminum mini well lights. On the second level, we seamlessly blended S1 Halo fixtures to illuminate the windows and siding. Our layered approach to these driveway light fixtures makes the home more elegant and welcoming.
To highlight the depth and dimension around the porch area, we installed uplighting on the bushes. Mini wall washers create beautiful shadowing on the stone backdrop and enhance its texture. To showcase the character of the corner tree and provide additional outdoor lighting, we strategically positioned a larger wall washer. Mini lights accent the roofline and spread warm light across the stone siding. Finally, we lit the small tree on the right with uplights so people can appreciate its texture and movement, even in the dark.
The carport area is built into a hill with beautiful landscaping and a stone wall. We positioned a mix of mini and large well washers to highlight the depth and character of the hill, accentuating both the plantings and hardscape. The spotlights we added in back illuminate larger trees, adding vertical elements to the outdoor light design so it transitions beautifully from structure to garden.
The path leading to the pavilion area is accented with Eagle Eye garden lighting to safely guide the way. Our combination of spotlights and mini and large wall washers give highlights to the plantings and to unique features along the path. This combination of lighting elements creates depth and warmth.
The granite walkway leading to the pavilion gets its beautiful glow from Eagle Eye fixtures. The pavilion itself has built-in lighting, but the additional path lighting helps the areas flow together—and balances the structure with the surrounding landscape.
We outfitted the grill area with Micro Series Owl lights that illuminate the stone backsplash and work area. These outside light fixtures have a unique spread for an even glow and functional lighting across the space—perfect for preparing food or pouring drinks.
The pavilion’s downlighting and the TV’s soft 2000-nit emission create a brilliant inner atmosphere. We added uplighting to the poles for depth, plus Eagle Eye fixtures along the ground for pathway illumination and Micro Series Owl lights to accent the pavilion structure. The result is an inviting space that blends interior and exterior elements.
The unique layout of the Jacuzzi area required tailored outdoor lighting solutions to blend elements. We used RW Rock Wall fixtures to accentuate the beautiful stone surround. Uplighting from V3 highlights two trees on the left and one on the right, but one tree was too close to the wall. We overcame that placement challenge with a large wall washer to add depth and warmth.
In the pool area, we used undercap lighting along the beautiful stone wall to provide a warm, layered effect. Lighting on both levels highlights the wall’s texture and craftsmanship while gas fire bowls add ambiance above the pillars. To maintain depth and shadows, we lit only select trees. The tree nearest the wall was a challenge; we used a spotlight on a pole to add a glow without washing out the wall.
Looking back across the pool to the pavilion, you can see how the undercap lighting enhances natural features and creates a soft, inviting glow. You’ll also notice the bowl lights, which add a touch of elegance. The black fixture in the foreground is part of the outdoor audio system; we blend lighting and sound for a seamless outdoor experience.
We accented hardscaping and landscaping around the pavilion with ground-level path lights. Uplighting on the bump-out and bay window adds depth, while smaller “cigar-style” mini spotlights amplify a fire-red hibiscus tree. Wall washers enhance flower beds, and mini well lights (core-drilled into the cement) illuminate the bar and grill area.
We chose Micro Series Owl lights to install beneath the granite countertop for soft yet functional illumination. This kind of outdoor lighting emphasizes the stone textures and brightens the seating area without shining in anyone’s face. Expert lighting designers anticipate users’ needs to create understated lighting solutions that people appreciate.
The stone stairs leading to the sport court area are accented with undercap lighting to illuminate the steps and flower beds. Walkway lights guide your path and their reflected light adds depth by gently lighting the stone wall on the right. These lighting solutions provide a safe and subtle transition between entertainment levels.
From the bottom of the stairs, you can see how undercap lights illuminate each step for safe stepping on the darkest nights. Mini wall washers on the left bring out the textures of the stone work and create fanciful plant shadows.
Professional lighting design and installation transformed this backyard oasis into a space that shines at night. Undercap lighting highlights the details of natural stone and granite, reflecting off the water to create a soft, inviting glow. Trees and plantings are subtly lit to reveal the depth and texture of the landscaping without overpowering the area. The layered lighting design enhances the architecture and landscaping, providing an integrated ambiance that feels natural and sophisticated, not harsh or overlit. Everywhere you look, there is another carefully designed scene, lighted for your enjoyment.
